Learn Calligraphy Today: Overcome Your Obstacles

Are you hesitant to try calligraphy because you think it’s a talent you’re born with? Do you believe that having bad handwriting means you can’t do calligraphy? Are you worried that you don’t have the right tools? Or perhaps you think you’re too young or too old to start? These are just a few of the many doubts and questions that might be holding you back.

One thing you need to understand is that calligraphy is a skill and not a so-called born talent. Let’s clear up a major misconception: talent and skill are two different things. Take calligraphy, for example. The real talent you need is the ability to learn new things and the courage to persevere, even when you think you can’t do it. The true talent required is making the impossible possible. With this mindset, you can easily learn the skill of calligraphy.

Calligraphy is often misunderstood and compared to handwriting. The only similarity between handwriting and calligraphy is that both are done by hand using similar writing tools. However, while you can do calligraphy with basic handwriting tools, you cannot achieve proper calligraphy with regular handwriting tools alone.

To overcome the myriad of doubts stopping you from learning calligraphy, you need another talent: the talent of ignoring your delusional thoughts. Definitely, a person who does calligraphy might be born with an artistic personality, but that doesn’t mean every calligrapher has to be from an art background.

Calligraphy is a skill that requires proper guidance, reference materials, tools, and lots of practice. With these three things, no matter how bad your handwriting is, you can become an excellent calligrapher.

Story of Core Contributor of TCF: Anjali Luthra

In the heart of Punjab’s enchanting city, Amritsar, lived Anjali Luthra, a woman who found solace and inspiration with each stroke of her pen. Her story is about more than calligraphy; it’s about rediscovery, resilience, and following your passion at any age.

Anjali joined The Calligraphy Foundation (TCF) at the age of 70, showing us that it’s never too late to start something new. A former teacher and lover of arts and crafts, she wanted to enhance her creative pursuits with beautiful handwriting.

Her journey began when she discovered the world of calligraphy. Unable to travel due to her age, her first teacher, brought the lessons to her home. Anjali learned various scripts, including Gothic, Italic, Fraktur, Brushpen, Uncial, and Neuland. Curious about the vibrant inks used in calligraphy, Anjali connected with Raghunita Gupta, the Managing Director of TCF for Calligraphy Supplies. This connection provided her with the necessary tools and introduced her to a community of calligraphy enthusiasts. Anjali became an active member of the Practice and Progress (PNP) group. Her motivation and support inspired beginners and created a strong sense of community. Even when she faced challenges, her absence was deeply felt, showing the impact she had on everyone.

Despite her age and physical constraints, Anjali’s commitment to learning six scripts was remarkable. Her story reminds us that age should never stop us from pursuing our passions. It’s about the willpower to give what you can, no matter the circumstances. Anjali’s journey is a call to action, especially for the younger generation. She showed that it’s never too late to start something new. Whether it’s calligraphy, art, or any passion, today is the perfect day to begin. In a heart-to-heart conversation, Anjali shared how calligraphy brought her escape and contentment. She encouraged the youth to keep learning and find fulfillment in the pursuit of knowledge.

Anjali Luthra’s story isn’t just about her; it’s an open invitation for you to begin your own journey. Let her life inspire you to pick up a pen, explore new horizons, and discover your own sense of freedom through the art of calligraphy.
