India has thousands of calligraphers and very few trained calligraphy teachers

Every script that survives does so because someone chose to teach it. Not because it was practised beautifully by a few, but because it was transmitted, deliberately, to people who then transmitted it again. Transmission is a trained skill. It is not a byproduct of mastery.

Calligraphy in India has been sustained through the dedication of practitioners who passed knowledge on through workshops, individual teaching, and mentorship. As interest has grown, especially among learners aged 8 to 16, the gap has become clear. A calligrapher can produce excellent work for twenty years and still be unable to explain a single stroke to a nervous ten-year-old. Those are two different crafts, and only one of them is being taught.

Teaching young learners needs structure, age-appropriate progression, and pedagogy that holds up across a real classroom. CTTP was created to address exactly that, by focusing on teacher training rather than skill development alone.

Teach calligraphy with structure and age-appropriate methods

Balance artistic practice with pedagogy and lesson planning

Work confidently with children and young learners

Contribute meaningfully to the long-term growth of calligraphy education in India

Built from years of teaching, observation and refinement

Our team has spent years teaching calligraphy learners across India. In that time we watched closely: where students hesitated, which corrections actually changed a hand, and which explanations never landed no matter how many times they were repeated.

We also paid attention to the ecosystem around those students. How schools approach handwriting and the arts. What parents ask for. What the inquiries reaching us from aspiring teachers were really asking, underneath the question about fees and duration.

Alongside that, we compared what happens in a real classroom with what the available courses in the market were offering. The pattern was consistent. Students could learn calligraphy. Many still could not teach it. They had the hand, and not the confidence, the sequence, or the language to guide someone else through it.

So we kept working on the answer. Across multiple batches we rebuilt the curriculum, tested different teaching structures, and refined the sequence until the progression held for learners of different backgrounds and different starting points. Feedback from every batch went back into the design of the next one.

Today our students leave with something a series of isolated calligraphy courses does not produce: clarity about how the craft is built, confidence standing in front of a class, and real professional exposure before they begin.

If your goal is to become a calligraphy educator, and not only someone who practises calligraphy, this program has been designed for you.

Is CTTP right for you?

CTTP is a commitment to your practice, your discipline, and your growth. Please apply only if you are ready to engage fully.

CTTP Is For You If…

  • You want to teach calligraphy, not just practice it
  • You want to work with children and learners aged 8 to 16
  • You value structure, discipline, and pedagogy
  • You want recognition as a trained educator
  • You have already learned calligraphy to a basic level or are an amateur calligrapher
  • You practice regularly but lack clear structure or progression
  • You want to present your work professionally

CTTP Is NOT For:

  • Those who want to learn calligraphy as a casual hobby
  • Those looking for a quick certificate without consistent practice
  • Those unwilling to teach, mentor or guide learners
  • Those not ready to follow a structured curriculum and disciplined practice
  • Those expecting instant perfection

CTTP is for those who are serious about education, impact, and growth.

Built on Three Pillars

01

Structured Learning

Every stroke, letter, and word is taught with purpose: why it exists, how it behaves, and how it connects.

02

Professional Orientation

You learn how to document your journey, present your work, and approach calligraphy as a serious discipline.

03

Pedagogy-Based Training

Teachers develop through process-oriented learning and classroom-focused teaching practice.

CTTP bridges the gap  ·  passion to profession  ·  skill to pedagogy  ·  practice to teaching

The Capstone Project

One Capstone Project, not a series of separate assignments. It is the final integrated assessment of everything the six months have built, and it carries two components.

  • Teaching Portfolio. Lesson plans, handouts, assessment tools and demonstration material. Proof that you can run a class.
  • Artist Portfolio. Your own body of work across the scripts studied. Proof that you can do what you teach.
  • Presentation and defence of both components before mentors
  • Classroom and practice review as the closing assessment
What Comes Next

3-Month Internship with The Calligraphy Foundation

The natural continuation of the learning journey. Certification tells you that you are trained. The internship is where you find out that you can actually do it, with mentors still beside you.

  • Mentored teaching exposure in a real setting
  • Supervised lesson delivery and feedback
  • Professional positioning: resume, portfolio and profile
  • Followed by 2 years of membership with The Calligraphy Foundation

  • Application and interviewEvery application is read personally. Shortlisted applicants attend a twenty-minute conversation, and a decision follows within 48 hours.
  • Only 25 seatsThe cap is arithmetic before it is anything else. Individual feedback on every assignment, and peer reviews where everyone is genuinely heard, only work at this size.
  • Flexible payment optionsOne-time payment with a 5% discount, or two, three and four-part instalment plans. Details below.

Two Levels of Certification

This program is demanding on purpose. A certificate anyone can receive by turning up is worth what it costs to get. All requirements are stated here, before you apply, rather than after you pay.

Certificate of Proficiency

Awarded to trainees who demonstrate consistent performance and complete all program requirements to the required standard.

  • Minimum 75% attendance across all scheduled sessions
  • Minimum 80% of homework assignments submitted on time
  • 75% or above in each evaluation component
  • Good command demonstrated in the final assignments
  • Successful completion of the Capstone Project, both portfolios
  • Satisfactory mentor assessment at both preliminary and final stages

Certificate of Participation

Awarded to trainees who complete the course but do not meet the full criteria for the Certificate of Proficiency.

  • Completion of the program duration
  • Active participation in sessions and workshops
  • Score below 75% in any evaluation component, homework below 80% on time, or an incomplete Capstone Project

Certificates are issued within 2 weeks of batch completion. The Final Project must be submitted within 4 months of the course conclusion.

Common Questions

What exactly is CTTP?
CTTP is a six-month, structured teacher-training program designed for serious calligraphy learners. It focuses on pedagogy, structured practice, stroke understanding, and professional readiness. This is not a hobby or short-term course.
Do I need to be an expert calligrapher?
No. CTTP is designed for learners with basic exposure who seek confidence and clarity. Expertise is an outcome of the program, not a requirement for admission.
How is CTTP different from regular calligraphy courses?
CTTP focuses on the learning process, not just outcomes. It is pedagogy-based, feedback and correction-driven, and builds a professional educator mindset rather than technical skill alone.
Is CTTP suitable if I want to teach calligraphy?
Absolutely. CTTP is specifically designed to prepare learners to teach responsibly, confidently, and with clarity, particularly with children aged 8 to 16.
What is the session timing and duration?
Sessions are 120 to 150 minutes each. Morning batch: 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Evening batch: 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Classes are held 3 days per week.
What if I miss a session?
CTTP is a live program. While limited support material may be available, regular attendance is strongly recommended. Attendance below 75% affects certification eligibility.
Why are seats limited?
CTTP is mentorship-driven. Limited seats ensure quality feedback, individual focus, and meaningful learning for every participant in the batch.
Is there certification provided?
Yes. A Certificate of Proficiency is awarded on scoring 75%+ in all evaluation components and completing the Capstone Project, which includes both a Teaching Portfolio and an Artist Portfolio. A Certificate of Participation is awarded to all other completers.
Will CTTP help me build a portfolio?
Yes. CTTP helps you document your learning journey, create structured work, and present your calligraphy professionally, which is the foundation of a teaching career.
Is CTTP accessible for international learners?
Applications are currently accepted from Indian individuals only. CTTP is fully online and accessible across all time zones within India.
