What is Broad Edge Calligraphy?

Broad edge calligraphy is governed by the tool. The pen angle, nib width, and stroke direction create the letterform — not decorative effort. It is a discipline rooted in manuscript tradition, practised across centuries and cultures.

This program teaches the structural rules that govern broad edge letterforms — from the foundational grip and movement to the historical scripts that emerged from them. It is not a workshop. It is a sequential, guided educational program.

Each module builds on the last. Each session assumes the practice from the session before. Progress here is not measured in speed but in depth.

Four Scripts. One Progression.

Foundational Hand letterform
01 — Module One Foundational Hand

Pen hold, ink loading, nib width, pen angle, stroke direction, and rhythm. The grammar of all broad edge work.

Uncial letterform
02 — Module Two Uncial

Rounded letterforms rooted in medieval manuscript tradition. Pen angle consistency, spacing logic, and historical context.

Textura letterform
03 — Module Three Textura

Dense Gothic structure, vertical rhythm, precise spacing, and manuscript discipline. Demands the precision developed earlier.

Fraktur letterform
04 — Module Four Fraktur

Expressive blackletter, structural sharpness, and complex letterforms. The most demanding script — rewards committed learners.

BEMP is a structured educational program. Every session builds on the last. Progress is guided, corrected, and measured.

Disciplined Practice

Homework is mandatory. Practice between sessions is where learning consolidates. Students are expected to submit work after every class. Consistency is not optional — it is the method.

Guided Corrections

Instructors review submissions and provide feedback. No learner is left without direction. Common errors are addressed in group sessions. Individual feedback is given on the final module piece.

Historical Grounding

Yes — Module 1 (Foundational Hand) is designed for those with no prior broad edge experience. However, applicants should be motivated, patient, and willing to practice consistently between sessions.
Yes. All sessions are recorded and uploaded to Google Classroom within 24 hours. Students can revisit any session during the program period.
Classes are conducted in Hindi and English. All written materials and handbooks are in English.
Kits are dispatched before the program begins. Delivery timelines vary by location. Tracking information is shared with each student after dispatch.
Weekend evenings — Saturday or Sunday. Exact timing is confirmed with the enrolled cohort before the first session begins.
The recording is uploaded within 24 hours. Students who miss a session must watch the recording and submit a confirmation note. Attendance below 75% per module affects certificate eligibility.
